Seeds
In the old days, grandma and grandpa used to feed seeds to birds. When their birds died, they might think the birds were simply getting too old. The birds may have suffered from fatty liver, but the owners may think it as chubby and cute without knowing the problem. Generally no one know the reason as it was not common to take a bird to the vet in the old days.
As we and the society develop, we start to understand that seed alone can be detrimental to the health of our furry companions. As a dietitian, I call seed-diet as empty-calorie diet: high in fat and calorie, low in nutrients. To birds, eating seeds is simply like us eating chips…. Well how can that be our sole food then?
Seeds are NOT birds major food in nature
Birds in nature are mostly opportunistic eater, i.e., they feed on whatever they come across and suit their instinct taste. No bird in nature will gather to look for seeds alone. Moreover, the seeds available in nature refer to those seeds of fruits, sometimes crops, but none of them truly represents those we can buy from the shelf.
Vets recommended pellets, well~
Well compared to seeds, pellets are definitely the better choice.
However, the quality of pellets indeed varies. Even some of the most popular brands in the market can be offering high fat, high colorings and flavourings!
Pellets are offered generically, without taking into account the needs of different species and different individual birds.
Pellets are synthesized by heavy processing, through this, a lot of nutrients have been lost and therefore you can see that manufacturers use a lot of chemicals to supplement the pellets. In order to be suitable for "all" birds, the protein and fat content of pellets will be prepared lower (or shown to be low) than optimal, and therefore cannot provide enough energy for energetic birds species. This in long term could result in behavioral and emotional problems in birds. It is definitely not uncommon for you to find pellet-eating parrots showing self-mutilation and plucking behavior.
Petbirdlove’s Formula Diet: Healthy and Happy
Our formula is based on the needs of different types of birds, and takes care of their needs in terms of both physiological and psychological. We provide a happy yet healthy diet that allows bird to have a lot of fun while eating the nutrient-rich quality food under minimal processing.
Feather quality is the easiest performance index to observe, demonstrating the nutrition of diet and healthiness of birds. The picture below features Olivia’s Boey, demonstrating the changes in feather quality after switching from a seed diet to our formula diets.
Since 2016, reputable through the word of mouth 💯‼️
The picture below features my first and second birds of life (male canaries), both of which came into my life in the 1986. In those days, only seeds are available. Both their wives were chubby and only lived for 4-5 years, but these two males lived for 16-18 years (the picture was taken in 2002)!. Aas you know female birds are generally more fierce and take control of eating first, so they picked all their favourite seeds (high fat high oil yummmier), leaving the plain-taste seeds and other vegetables for the males.
Because of these experience, I was prone to finding out the cause since young by looking deeply into birdies diets and behaviors. These observation and further study in nutrition help the development of Petbirdlove’s Formula and help us gain all the reputation: https://www.facebook.com/pg/petbirdlove/reviews
